The EU operates a trade and investment policy through which it manages its economic relations with other parts of the world. Within the EU single market – which includes the concept of free trade in goods and services across the EU's internal borders, the Member States have agreed to align their rules for taxing goods and services in a customs union. The EU also assists the Member States with the alignment of their economic policies and corporate and income tax levels. ​
